New Neighbors

I have mourned my husband for 2 years now. I have just published my second book Life After Promiscuity, about our joyful 38 years together. And now I feel it is time to move on. I sold the story New Neighbors to Rose Caraway. It is in her book For the Men and the Woman who Love Them Vol 2.

Here is a brief quotation from that story:

I stand at our front window watching our new neighbors move in.

The people across the street move away in August. A for sale sign appears on their front lawn. The house is unoccupied for nearly two months before a sold sign is placed on the front lawn. A few weeks later a moving van pulls into the driveway and heaves to a stop. The van is followed closely by a highly polished black and white sedan and a midnight blue minivan that pull up and park, one behind the other, beside the sidewalk in front of the house.

“Come look at this, Tommy,” I say to my husband. He’s in the kitchen, his compact, muscular body is adorably naked, but for the short frilly apron and high-heeled slippers I enjoy seeing him wear while he prepares our Saturday brunch.

“Look at what, Mistress?” he inquires, glancing up from what he’s stirring on the stove.

I flash him a grin and gesture towards the window. “Come here and see for yourself!”

Without another word, Tommy turns off the stove and heads for our living room. I smile; momentarily distracted from my front window viewing, by the frisson of power he gives me by his immediate compliance.
